Today I was inspired by Tak Bhana’s, Church Unlimited, sermon on Holy Spirit. In particular his comments around Isaiah 28: 29. All this also comes from the Lord Almighty, wonderful in counsel and magnificent in wisdom. It dawned on me whilst reflecting over the past month or so that everything is so busy, be it work, be it family and everything we get involved in that we tend to overlook, at least I do, what was really important. How did my endeavors align with what my God wants from me and have I taken another step to maturity in Him?
I know there were times that the realisation of my efforts were in need of repentance and yet no matter how hard I tried to put it right I always felt worse. In Tak Bhana’s message it hit home that I was doing this in my will, not with the help of the Holy Spirit.
Funny how you get a response to your prayer. Isaiah 30:15 just pole axed me! This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it.”
It struck me that with everything piling on top of me I was not seeking counseling or magnificent wisdom from my God. I was reacting and relying on my ability and strength when I should have been quiet and trust His counsel and wisdom.
It further struck me that in Isaiah it was repentance AND rest. Typically I don’t rest, my brain doesn’t stop and I spend every moment to analyze work, finance, staff progression and family issues. God placed Rest after Repentance and yet together and then the words that pole axed me – “but you would have none of it”!
Wow! In my attempts to repent have I just gone on as though nothing needs to change? Have I been so busy I didn’t allow the Holy Spirit to finish His work in me? Maybe!
I feel rest is often overlooked. It is the time for healing, It is time set for a re-boot. It is time that we are nurtured in salvation and during that time of quiet and trusting in Him we are strengthened and ready to receive His wonderful counselling and magnificent wisdom.
For me to be effective in business, as a father and as a man of integrity, I need to be strong in repentant prayer AND rest; quiet and trusting to know that Our God has truly sent His Helper so that my strength is grounded on solid bedrock and His wisdom shines the way forward.
